Why couples pick Los Cabos
Los Cabos (Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo) is a favorite for US West Coast couples: desert-meets-ocean views, luxury resorts, and a shorter hop from California and the Southwest than the Caribbean.
Browse Mexico rows on the package table and ask Renee which Cabo properties she can book for your dates — inventory moves by season.
Entry rules for US visitors
- Passport. Fly into SJD with a valid US passport book (not a passport card). (travel.state.gov Mexico.)
- FMMd. Air arrivals receive a digital FMM (FMMd). Immigration stamps your passport and sets the authorized stay (up to 180 days at the officer's discretion). Download the digital record from INM if you need proof.
- Consular help. There is a US Consular Agency in Los Cabos for emergency citizen services — it does not perform marriages.
Always re-check travel.state.gov before you fly — entry rules change.
Marriage & ceremony basics
- Civil only is legal. Same national rule as the rest of Mexico: only the Registro Civil creates a legal marriage. Resort "free weddings" on the Baja side are typically symbolic unless you add a civil ceremony.
- Baja California Sur rules. State and municipal requirements differ from Quintana Roo. Do not assume Cancun paperwork rules apply in Cabo. Confirm medical certificates, witnesses, apostilles and translations with the Registro Civil in San José del Cabo or Cabo San Lucas for your ceremony date.
- Hard Rock example. Hard Rock's complimentary collection is symbolic; its published Mexico civil add-on has included an admin/government fee with blood test in some markets — amounts vary by property. Always get Cabo-specific pricing in writing.
- Sister-site deep dive. Use Wedding Abroad Rules — Mexico for the national framework, then verify Baja California Sur locally.

What to book ahead
- Resort and ceremony location (many Cabo venues book weekend sunsets far ahead).
- Civil vs symbolic decision — and a local coordinator if you need the Registro Civil.
- Guest flights into SJD and room block (inventory tight around holidays and spring).
- Whale-watch or sunset cruise only if it does not conflict with rehearsal timing.
- Wind backup plan — Corridor beaches can be breezy; ask about alternate ceremony sites.
Best season
October–May is the prime dry window. Summer is hotter with a shorter Pacific hurricane influence than the Caribbean, but tropical storms still occur. December–February evenings can be cool enough for light wraps in outdoor ceremonies.
FAQ
Is Cabo easier legally than Cancun?
Not necessarily. Both are Mexico, but each state sets civil registry rules. Cabo is Baja California Sur; Cancun is Quintana Roo (which recently changed its medical-certificate rule). Verify locally.
Can we do a symbolic Cabo wedding and stay married at home?
Yes — many couples marry legally in their US county, then celebrate with a symbolic resort ceremony. That skips foreign apostilles.
Where do guests fly?
Los Cabos International (SJD). Share transfer options in your wedding FAQ so guests do not overpay at the curb.
