Entry rules for US visitors

• Passport. US citizens need a valid passport to enter Jamaica. Confirm current validity rules on travel.state.gov before travel.
• Immigration. Complete whatever Jamaica immigration / customs form the government requires at the time of travel (the form name and URL change). Keep your return ticket and hotel address ready for the landing card or kiosk.
• Vaccines / health. Check CDC and Jamaica health notices for any current recommendations; none substitute for passport/entry rules.

Marriage & ceremony basics

• Licence. A Minister's Marriage Licence from the Ministry of Justice authorizes a Marriage Officer to marry "a single man and single woman" under the Marriage Act (moj.gov.jm). Same-sex legal marriage is not available under that licence.
• 24-hour rule. US Embassy Jamaica: persons getting married must be in Jamaica 24 hours before the ceremony. No blood test is required. Marriages valid under Jamaican law are generally recognized in the US.
• Documents. Birth certificates (embassy notes father's name), photo ID/passport, occupations, final divorce decree or death certificate if applicable; Form of Declaration signed before a Jamaican Justice of the Peace. Apply about two weeks ahead via a planner or the authorities (US Embassy; Ministry of Justice).
• Fees & validity. Ministry of Justice lists stamp duty on the licence (subject to change). Licence expires 90 days after issue. Marriage-officer and certificate fees are extra. Sandals/Couples often collect an island licence/admin fee unless a promo waives it — confirm in writing.

What to book ahead

1. Resort + ceremony date (Sandals/Beaches/Couples legal packages book out on Saturdays).
2. Who files the Minister's Licence — resort wedding team vs your own attorney.
3. Guest room block across one or more resorts if the guest list is large.
4. Arrive at least a day early to satisfy the 24-hour rule (earlier if the resort asks).
5. Whether you want the free legal package or a paid upgrade (decor, dinner, photography).

Best season

December–April is the driest peak. May–November is wetter with hurricane risk (Atlantic season). Summer mid-week dates can be easier on the budget if your guests can travel then.
